“Boston Strong.”
 
I got off the Freedom Trail and walked a couple of blocks to the finish line of the Boston Marathon and the memorial of 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, located on Boylston Street.
 
This iconic spot is where runners complete their 26.2-mile journey, which starts in Hopkinton and winds through several cities and towns in greater Boston.
 
The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon, first held in 1897. It’s also one of the six World Marathon Majors.
 
The area is filled with excitement and emotion as runners cross the finish line, greeted by cheering crowds, music, and the iconic “Boston Strong” banners.
 
The Boston Marathon bombing was a tragic event that occurred on April 15, 2013. Here’s an overview of what happened:
 
Two bombs detonated near the finish line on Boylston Street at 2:49 PM, approximately four hours after the marathon began.
 
The explosions were about 12 seconds and 210 yards apart.
 
Three people were killed: 8-year-old Martin Richard, 23-year-old Lingzi Lu, and 29-year-old Krystle Campbell. More than 260 others were injured, with many sufferings severe injuries, including limb amputations.
 
Numerous memorials and tributes were established to honor the victims and survivors, including the Boston Strong movement that symbolizes the city’s resilience and solidarity.
