Bill Robinson,nicknamed “Bojangles” born in Richmond was an American tap dancer, actor and singer.
He was known as the most highly paid African-American entertainer in the United States during the first half of the 20th century.
He is famous for his dancing with Shirley Temple in a series of films during the 1930’s.
He never forgot where he came from and contributed many times to the Richmond community.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded a song about him in 1969 called “Mr. Bojangles”
