Good morning y’all! LARRY LAMPHERE was a star athlete at Durand High School and Central Michigan University- he was inducted into the CMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005! He led CMU to 4 MAC titles in baseball, was named All-MAC and All-Mideast Region 3 times, and was the CMU and MAC record holder in career stolen bases and single season stolen bases at the time of his CMU induction! He was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1988 and played three years in their farm system. In 1989, while playing for the Asheville Tourists in the South Atlantic League, Larry led the league (and the entire minor leagues until an injury late in the season) with 67 stolen bases and was named to the All-Star team! By the way, 2 other players on that Asheville team stole 50+ bases!! Has there ever been a team at any level that had three players with 50+ stolen bases in the same season? A big shout-out to Larry on an incredible career!!
