His home was involved in the beginning of the Civil War in the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861.
After the battle, he moved to his family to Appomattox, Virginia 120 miles away thinking it was safe.
Instead, in 1865, General Robert E Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant in McLean house in Appomattox.
His houses were, involved in one of the first and one of the last encounters of the Civil War.
